Leather and Linen Document Bag

This fine bag debuted in Fall 1984 and running until Summer 1987 when it was converted to Cotton Canvas for one seaon before being redesigned as the Canvas and Leather Document Bag. It remains today an essential bag for me. Banana Republic was ahead of its time in creating the perfect smart phone bags.

From the catalogue: “A portable outside pocket that leaves hands free while keeping safe your passport, currency, traveler’s checks, credit cards, airline ticket. Slip your belt through the loop on the back, sling the bag cross-shoulder (bandolier-style) and it becomes as much a part of your clothing as your shoes or socks–this no danger of leaving it on plane or store counter. Made of the toughest, finest Russian oriental linen and leather specially tanned for strength. Pre-shrunk, leather and all; this machine washable.”

Natural Linen Version

The most common version is the Natural Linen which was offered from 1984-1987.

Cotton Canvas and Leather Version

Offered only in Summer 1987, this Olive version was made of Cotton Canvas rather than linen. It was replaced by the Canvas and Leather Document Bag.

In Summer 1987 the bag was offered in Olive.
