This shirt seems to have started as the Striped jersey in 1987 and then been rebranded in Spring 88 as the Marseilles Jersey , which is certainly more evocative. From the catalogue: “Wherever a French sailor goes, he’s the object of admiring glances from envious French mademoiselles. Is it devastating Gallic charm that causes feminine eyes to stray in his direction? Mais non<\/em>. It’s his striped jersey, which has a certain je ne sais quoi<\/em>. We thought it only fair to offer the ladies their own version of this classic shirt. So we knit this one of thick, sea and land worthy cotton. Wide sleeves and a boxy shape provide an interior air-conditioning system, while pre-washing minimizes shrinkage. This is no clingy t-shirt, but a shirt for all seasons\u2013one tat holds equally well in Paris and in the port of Marseilles.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
