All Night Flightsuit

From the catalog: “Cotton fleece is so comfortable it begs to be used for something other than sweats. When we made the All-Night Flightsuit, our idea was to give the intercontinental traveler a cozy yet stylish alternative to tight waistbands, jabbing buttons, and rumpled clothing at journey’s end. Perfect for the redeye: the elastic and drawstring waistband never binds. Simply add scarf, belt and boots to make a stylish impression at terminals from Shannon to Shanghai.”

The All-Night Flightsuit is one of the items whose origins are detailed in the Wild Company biography. As co-founder Patricia Ziegler accounts, she was working in Italy designing the Linea Viaggio luggage and wanted something comfy for the long flight home to San Francisco. She drew up a design and had the Italian factory whip one up for her. She was met by husband Mel at the airport who immediately approved.

Originating in the Spring 1986 catalog, the All-Night Flightsuit was first introduced in “natural’ AKA ivory. Later it was also offered in black.
Styling safari-type clothing with accessories was a particular genius of Patrica Ziegler. In the biography she frequently mentions adding belts, scarves and boots to give shape and style to clothes and inspire women customers.
